Located northwest of Baltimore in Baltimore and Carroll counties, Liberty Reservoir Natural Environment Area encompasses over 4,000 acres of protected wilderness surrounding the 2,870-acre Liberty Reservoir. Created as a drinking water source, the reservoir and its natural environment area have become a vital habitat for many species and a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts. The landscape consists of mixed hardwood forests, open meadows, wetlands, and riparian corridors supporting diverse flora and fauna including white-tailed deer, wild turkeys, and numerous bird species. Visitors can enjoy over 20 miles of multi-use trails for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding, with scenic views overlooking the reservoir. Fishing and non-motorized boating such as kayaking and canoeing are popular on the reservoir’s clean waters. Hunting is permitted in designated seasons, adding to the area's multi-use appeal.
